Honda recall

Honda Motor Co. is recalling Civic models from the 2012 model year to fix a flaw related to the cars’ drive shafts. The car maker said that during assembly, installation of the drive shaft wasn’t properly completed. As a result the shaft could separate. If this occurs the vehicle could suffer a sudden loss of power or could roll away when parked if the parking brake hasn’t been applied. In a document filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Honda said the recall affects 50,190 vehiclesThe recall is another headache related to redesigned Civic, which previously experienced production delays. The company has traditionally relied on the Civic to dominate the compact-car market, but teething pains like this and stronger competition from rivals including Ford, Chevrolet and Hyundai could hurt the Civic’s popularity.Under the recall Honda dealers will inspect the driver’s side drive shaft and install a new one if necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin later this month
